Terms & Conditions

These terms apply whenever you use SmoothMock, on the Free plan or any paid plan. By creating an account, joining the waitlist, or taking a mock test, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the service. This document, our Privacy Policy, and our Refund & Cancellation Policy together form the whole agreement between you and SmoothMock.

1. What SmoothMock is

SmoothMock is an independent AI-graded mock test and preparation platform, built for IELTS first, with PTE next on the roadmap. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to the British Council, IDP, Pearson, or any organization that administers the real IELTS or PTE exams. Band scores and results generated by SmoothMock are estimates for practice purposes and are not official scores recognized by any exam board, university, employer, or immigration authority.

Any mention of PTE, or of features planned for it, is a roadmap statement, not a commitment to a specific release date. We'll update the site and these terms once PTE support actually ships.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You need an account to take mock tests beyond the free preview. You must be old enough in your country to enter into an agreement like this one, or have a parent or guardian's permission to use the service.

You're responsible for:

  • The accuracy of the information you provide at signup and afterward.
  • Keeping your login credentials secure and not sharing them.
  • Activity that happens under your account, including attempts, plan changes, and billing.

Accounts are for individual use. Progress tracking, mistake taxonomy history, Vocabulary Builder, and speaking recordings are all tied to one person's attempts, so routing multiple people's practice through a single account isn't permitted, on any plan.

You can request account deletion at any time; see our Privacy Policy for what happens to your data when you do.

3. Plans and billing

3.1 Available plans

SmoothMock currently offers four plans:

  • Free ($0/month): unlimited Reading and Listening, one graded Writing attempt a day, and two Speaking sessions a week, usable standalone or as part of a full mock. No card required.
  • Full Access ($7/month): unlimited Reading and Listening, 30 Speaking sessions a month, 120 Writing attempts a month, the full mistake taxonomy, a coach narrative after every attempt, and progress tracking.
  • Intensive ($19/month): 120 Speaking sessions a month, 300 Writing attempts a month, everything in Full Access, plus a weekly personalized study plan, a weekly band-score projection, a monthly deep-dive report, custom topic requests, and priority grading.
  • Unlimited ($29/month): everything in Intensive with no monthly caps on any module, subject to the fair-use terms in Section 4.

Plan features and pricing are also described on our pricing page and in our FAQ; if there's ever a conflict between this document and marketing copy elsewhere on the site, this document controls.

3.2 How billing works

Paid plans are billed monthly and renew automatically until cancelled. Module caps (Speaking and Writing allowances) reset on a rolling monthly basis from your signup or last renewal date, not the calendar month, and unused attempts don't carry over into the next cycle.

You can cancel at any time from your account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you keep access until then. Upgrading to a higher plan takes effect immediately, including the higher caps, for the rest of your current billing cycle. Downgrading takes effect from your next billing cycle.

Prices are listed in USD. We may change pricing over time; a pricing change won't apply to a billing cycle you've already paid for without advance notice.

Payment is processed by a third-party payment processor. We don't store your full card details on our own systems. A short grace period may apply after a failed renewal charge before your plan reverts to Free, giving you a chance to update your payment method.

4. Fair use on unlimited or high-cap plans

Some plans are advertised as "unlimited" or include a high monthly allowance for a specific module. That's a real commitment, not a marketing figure — it's sized to comfortably cover even a genuinely dedicated test-taker practicing every day. What it isn't sized for is scripted, automated, or resale-style use: querying the grading system programmatically, running it through a bot, routing many people's attempts through one account, or any pattern of use an individual test-taker studying on their own wouldn't produce.

If we detect usage that looks automated or clearly outside normal individual test prep, we may throttle, rate-limit, or temporarily pause that account's access while we look into it, and we'll reach out to ask what's going on before taking anything further. This isn't aimed at someone genuinely grinding toward an exam date — it's there to keep the plan sustainable for everyone using it the way it's meant to be used. Confirmed or repeated abuse can result in suspension or termination under Section 6 below.

5. Feature-specific terms

These terms apply to specific features referenced in Section 3.1:

  • Drill Mode and Vocabulary Builder (Full Access, Intensive, Unlimited) are built automatically from your own graded attempt history. They don't draw from your monthly Speaking or Writing allowance, since they're not full graded attempts. They require at least one prior graded attempt on a module to have data to work from.
  • Progress tracking and analytics show your own band score and mistake pattern history across attempts. It's not a comparison against other users, and there's no ranking or leaderboard feature.
  • Weekly study plans, weekly band-score projections, and monthly deep-dive reports (Intensive and Unlimited) are generated from your own attempt and mistake taxonomy data. They're estimates and study suggestions, not guarantees about your real exam trajectory.
  • Custom topic requests (Intensive and Unlimited) draw from your normal Speaking and Writing monthly allowance where applicable; they aren't a separate unbilled allowance.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use SmoothMock to cheat on, or gain an unfair advantage in, the actual IELTS or PTE exam, or to circumvent the security or integrity of those exams.
  • Share, resell, or sublicense your account access to others.
  • Scrape, reverse-engineer, or attempt to extract the question bank, grading logic, mistake taxonomy, or underlying models.
  • Use bots, scripts, or automated tools to generate attempts, drills, or vocabulary review sessions in place of genuine individual practice.
  • Abuse the AI speaking examiner or writing grader with content unrelated to genuine test practice, including attempts to manipulate or "jailbreak" the grading system.
  • Upload or submit content that is unlawful, abusive, or infringes someone else's rights.
  • Attempt to interfere with, disable, or overload the platform's infrastructure.

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, with or without notice depending on severity.

7. Your content, our content

You retain rights to the writing and speech you submit during mock attempts, including essays, speaking recordings, and transcripts. By submitting it, you give SmoothMock a license to process, store, and grade that content, generate reports, drills, and vocabulary suggestions from it, and use aggregated or anonymized patterns from it to improve grading accuracy and the mistake taxonomy over time. We don't publish your individual submissions publicly. You can ask us to exclude your account from this aggregated improvement use; see our Privacy Policy.

Everything else on the platform, including the question bank, grading methodology, mistake taxonomy, coach narratives, sample answers, site design, and branding, belongs to SmoothMock and may not be copied, scraped, or reused without permission.

8. AI grading is an estimate

Band scores and results from SmoothMock are generated by an automated AI grading system built on real IELTS and PTE band descriptors and marking criteria. Grading is automated on every plan; no human reviews your submission as part of standard grading unless you specifically email us about a report that looks wrong. Results are estimates, not guarantees. They are not a substitute for the actual exam, and we don't guarantee that a score on SmoothMock will match your result on the real test. Use them as a practice signal, not a promise.

9. Third-party services

The platform links to, or relies on, third-party services for parts of its operation, including payment processing and infrastructure hosting. We're not responsible for the availability or practices of third-party sites we link to, including the British Council, IDP, or Pearson.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

SmoothMock is provided "as is." We don't guarantee the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times, and we don't guarantee any specific real-exam outcome, band score, or study result from using it.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, SmoothMock and its founders aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. This includes, without limitation, any real exam outcome, a missed test date, reliance on a mock band score, an internet outage during a timed attempt, or a grading report you believe was inaccurate. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold SmoothMock and its founders harmless from any claim, loss, or damage arising from your violation of these terms, your misuse of the platform, or content you submit that infringes someone else's rights or breaks the law.

13. Termination

You can stop using SmoothMock and delete your account at any time from your account settings, or by emailing us. We can suspend or terminate access for violation of these terms, including the acceptable use and fair-use sections above. What happens to your data on termination is described in our Privacy Policy.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Nepal, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If you have a dispute, email us first at nishant@smoothmock.com; most issues are resolved faster that way than through formal proceedings.

15. Severability

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in full effect.

16. Assignment

We may assign our rights and obligations under these terms in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. You may not assign your account or these terms to anyone else without our consent.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. If we make a material change, we'll update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify active users.
